Only those members in good standing with TSDMAS and listed on the Dan Roster will be recognized at the current rank listed. This applies to members promoted outside the organization or personally tested by myself. We DO NOT honor rank from non active members personally awarded or from a second party promotion.
Also, All TSDMAS members holding the rank of 4th Dan and higher will be required to re certify every six months to remain actively listed on the Dan roster and to remain listed at their current rank.

The Independent Martial Art's Society and Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society was formed to offer the Independent Instructor a means of continued education and training along with the advancement of the member and the advancement of the members students.
We will be there with you to help and guide you along your journey but will never dictate to the member what or how to teach or how to run your school.
We will never limit our members to a set way or curriculum. Members will have the freedom they have longed for to teach and Incorporate new and exciting idea's into their teaching structure.
We ask one thing only ofour members and that is to preserve the highest standards of the martial arts through training and teaching with compassion, To remain humble, To be sincere and to put sincere effort towards the advancement of the martial arts through your training and teaching and promotion of the martial arts.
By Laws
1. The Official name will be the Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society / Independent Martial Art's Society. TSDMAS / IMS will be the abbreviated names.
2. The purpose of the
organizations
are to offer guidance and support of it's members through assistance of technical training offered, certification and advancement, along with a society of members dedicated to the freedom and advancement of the martial arts and to uphold the highest standards for training and promotion

We
are a non political organization. With no elections. No elected officers or officials. No voting. Board members through trust and respect are asked if they would like certain positions within the organization and do so on a voluntary basis only. Guide lines and duties regarding board of directors positions.
No votes will be cast regarding any member or idea put forth before the board. No elections will take place. No member of the board will dictate right or wrong the goings on of any student or member belonging to another instructor, school owner or organization head including that of th e founder of TSDMAS. No board member under any circumstance will ever get involved with another persons student or the promotion of a student outside their own school.
No board member may contact a student of another member or a student of the founder in regards to promotions, likes or dislikes, No negative comments will be tolerated such as phone calls or e mails to a member who is not their direct student. Board members are put in place to help answer members questions in a positive manner only. Board members may make helpful suggestions in writing to the founder. All decisions are made by the Founder of TSDMAS. Any violation of the above will result in disciplinary action not to exclude expulsion from the society.
4. We will never dictate what or how to teach, Never dictate what dress code to wear, color of uniforms, style of uniforms, what patch or patches to wear. The TSDMAS will never make demands of its members. members will never be forced to use the organizations gup/kyu or dan certificates. These Items are offered only. members have the freedom to use their own certificates if desired. members also have the freedom to use the name Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society or Independent martial Art's Society on their documents to include letter heads, certificates, flyers, in any positive promotion of the organization and of members schools.
We will never dictate to its members what color belt system to use. members will have the freedom of choice.

We will never take nor ask for portions of members testing fee's such as gup / kyu test and Dan test.

We will be open to all styles and systems. Reason being the name Tang Soo Do is a generic term simply for China hand way similar to the term kara - te empty hand. Tang Soo Do / China Empty Hand. The name is often times confused with Moo Duk Kwan, Soo Bahk Do, when in reality no one person or entity owns the name Tang Soo Do. The Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society consist of board members from various styles and systems of the Korean Arts, Japanese arts and Okinawan. The Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society will never discriminate do to religious beliefs, race, style or system practiced.
7. Membership, membership into the
organization must include the completion of an application for membership. Along with this application a copy of your most current Dan Certificate must be sent in to headquarters. The Initial one time cost for membership is $50.00. With a yearly renewal of $25.00 per year there after. This is to insure all members are current and active and to help with the cost of paper work, records, filing and updates to keep the website and organization up and running. Upon acceptance members will receive a certificate of membership and a patch. If members would like to be issued a dan certificate to go along with their current or former organizations the cost will be an additional $25.00. Member Instructors are asked to register your Dans with the Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society the cost is $25.00 and you will be issued membership certificates for you to issue to your black belt students along with patches. This helps promote the organization and to help off set cost.
8. Rank Advancement. Members who desire to advance in rank must do so first with a formal written request for promotion. In your own words an explanation why you feel you should be advanced at this time. This may be done through email or regular mail, or via phone. Option 1. If approved members are encouraged to be tested at headquarters where a testing panel will be in place of masters and grand masters from various styles and systems along with the organization founder. Option 2. To be tested at an official testing center in or closest to your state. If this be the case the examiner will have to video tape the testing and submit it to headquarters for complete review before the founders board. Option 3. Via Video Tape. VHS or DVD. No, you tube or equivalent permitted. Then sent to headquarters for full review by the testing board and founder. Time in grade will be taken into consideration as long as applicant can provide documentation that they have remained current and active through the time period by teaching and or training. After 4th dan a minimum of 3 years between dan Grades will set the precedence. Longer if need be depending on the skill level and activity of the applicant as teaching and continued training. 6th dan will conclude the last formal testing and will depend on age and current physical capabilities of the applicant 7th dan and higher will be awarded only for years of commitment and dedication, number of black belts and masters promoted by the applicant along with years of service and promotion of the martial arts. Testing fee's apply to all dan grades up to 7th dan and must be paid in full at time of examination. The dan rank of 2nd dan will be recognized as Kyo Sa and the title of Instructor will be recognized by the organization. Instructor certificates are available to all 2nd dan and above members. The cost is $20.00 for certificate. This covers the printing of said Instructors certificate, and cost of mailing ect. The Dan rank of 4th dan and above will be recognized as a Master Instructor.
9. Each member will be awarded the freedom to test their own students gup / kyu / Dan / without the interference of the organization. Members however may only advance students to one dan grade below their current rank.
10. The Tang Soo Do Martial arts Society and The Independent Martial Art's Society reserves the right to deny membership at any time. Each member is required to conduct themselvs at all times in a professional capacity and is expected to uphold the highest standards possible in the continued promotion of the martial arts world wide.

Charter black belt memberships / $10.00 As a school owner or instructor, we ask that you register your black belts with TSDMAS or IMS memberships. Each of these memberships are valid only while the student remains under the instruction of the professional member. School owners will pay a small fee for each membership however a larger fee can be charged to the student by the school owner allowing revenue to support the school.
Charter under belt memberships / $10.00
Your students can apply for membership upon registration to your program or upon first gup test and will be valid as long as the student remains under the instruction of the professional member.
